Shades
Roller shades
A single piece of fabric that rolls up neatly into a slim tube or cassette. The cleanest look there is, in everything from sheer to full blackout.
Solar shades
A woven screen fabric that cuts glare and heat while keeping your view. The answer to low winter sun on a south or west window.
Cellular shades
Honeycomb-shaped pockets that trap air and slow heat loss. The most insulating window covering you can buy. Our most popular product in older Atlantic homes.
Zebra blinds
Alternating sheer and solid bands that slide past each other. Line them up for filtered light, offset them for privacy.
Sheer shades
Soft fabric vanes suspended between two sheer layers. Gentle, filtered light and a softer look than a blind.
Roman shades
Fabric that folds up in tailored pleats. Sewn by hand in our workshop. Warm, finished, and right at home in heritage rooms.
Blinds
Wood blinds
Real hardwood slats. Rich, warm and precise. Best in living rooms, bedrooms and offices.
Faux wood blinds
The look of painted wood in a material that shrugs off steam, humidity and sticky fingers.
Vertical blinds
Vanes that hang top to bottom and stack to one side. The practical choice for patio doors and wide windows.
Aluminum venetian blinds
Slim metal slats that tilt for precise light control. Durable, affordable and great in offices and basements.
Motorized and smart home
Motorized blinds and shades
Add a quiet motor to almost any product above. Control by remote, wall switch, app, schedule or voice with Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between blinds and shades?
Blinds are made of slats or vanes, such as wood, faux wood, aluminum or vertical, that tilt to adjust light. Shades are made from a continuous piece of fabric that rolls, folds or stacks up. Shades generally insulate and darken better; blinds give finer control over the direction of light.
Which type of blind is best for Atlantic Canadian homes?
There is no single best type, but cellular shades are the most popular in older Atlantic homes because they insulate against cold, drafty windows. Solar shades suit rooms with low winter glare, and moisture-resistant faux wood or roller shades suit bathrooms, kitchens and coastal homes.
Which blinds are the most energy efficient?
Cellular (honeycomb) shades. Their air pockets slow heat loss through the glass, and the US Department of Energy found they can reduce heating energy use by up to 20% compared with bare windows. Double-cell and blackout versions insulate the most.
Can every product be motorized?
Almost every product we make can be motorized, including roller, solar, cellular, zebra, sheer and Roman shades and many blinds. Very small windows and some vertical blind sizes have limits, which we will explain at your measure.
Are all your blinds made to measure?
Yes. Every blind and shade is made in our Halifax workshop to the exact measurements our team takes in your home. We do not sell stock sizes.
