Beyond the suburbs, Halifax Regional Municipality opens up into lake country, woods and coastline. Fall River and Waverley on their chains of lakes. Hammonds Plains on its big wooded lots. Timberlea, growing fast along St. Margarets Bay Road. Tantallon and Hubbards on the shores of St. Margarets Bay.
The homes are as varied as the land: executive homes with walls of glass facing a lake, family homes on acreages, century-old farmhouses and cottages that sit closed up from Thanksgiving to May. We make blinds for all of them in our Halifax workshop and install them with our own team, with no travel charge for measures across rural HRM.
What rural HRM homes need
Big views, big glass. Lakefront and oceanfront homes are often built with tall, wide windows that need motorization and solar shades.
Warmth and exposure. Open lots and water-facing walls take the wind. Cellular shades keep the heat in.
Cottages that handle damp. Moisture-resistant roller shades, faux wood and corrosion-resistant hardware for seasonal homes on the Bay.

What it means for your windows: In midwinter the sun never climbs higher than about 22 degrees here, so it reaches far into south-facing rooms. That is welcome warmth on a cold afternoon and a real glare problem on a TV or a laptop. With the June sun up at about 5:28 a.m., east-facing bedrooms need blackout with sealed edges for anyone who likes to sleep past dawn.

Frequently asked questions
Do you charge to measure in rural HRM?
No. In-home measures, design advice and written quotes are free throughout rural HRM, including Fall River, Waverley, Hammonds Plains, Timberlea, Tantallon and Hubbards.
What are the best blinds for a lakefront home?
Solar shades for living areas, to cut glare off the water while keeping the view, motorized shades for tall or wide windows, and blackout cellular shades for bedrooms. On exposed walls, cellular shades add real warmth in winter.
What blinds work in a cottage that is closed all winter?
Moisture-resistant products: polyester roller or cellular shades, faux wood blinds and corrosion-resistant hardware. Avoid real wood and natural fibres in cottages that stay damp and unheated for months.
Can you install blinds before we move into a new build in Hammonds Plains?
Yes. We can measure once windows and drywall are finished, and time production so blinds are installed before or soon after move-in. We can also provide wiring specs for hardwired motorized shades.
