What happens at your measure
Before we arrive. We will confirm your time by text or email and ask one or two quick questions about the rooms you have in mind. If you have photos or a Pinterest board, send them. It helps.
At your home (about 45 to 90 minutes).
- We walk through each room with you and ask what is not working now: too bright, too cold, no privacy, cords everywhere, the kids up at 5 a.m.
- We show you fabrics and materials in your own light. A fabric that looks warm grey in the showroom can read blue on a north window.
- We measure every window ourselves, three times across and three times down, and note depth, obstructions and anything out of square.
- We talk honestly about budget. If a less expensive option will do the job in a spare room, we will say so.
After. You get an itemized written quote, usually the same day. Take your time. When you are ready, approve it and we start making your order in our Halifax workshop.
Why we measure, and why it matters to you
Custom blinds cannot be returned to a shelf. If you measure them yourself and get it wrong, the cost is yours. When we measure, the fit is our responsibility.

What it costs
Nothing. The measure, the design advice and the quote are free, with no obligation to buy. We do not charge a trip fee in the communities we regularly serve. For a few remote communities we group visits into scheduled measure trips, and we will tell you the next date when you book.
After you say yes
- Your order goes to our Halifax workshop.
- We cut, sew, assemble and test every blind.
- Most orders are ready about two weeks after your measure.
- Our team installs everything, tests it, shows you how it works and takes the packaging away.
- Every order is covered by our 5-year warranty.
Frequently asked questions
Is the in-home measure really free?
Yes. The measure, design advice and written quote are free, with no obligation to buy. We do not charge a trip fee in the communities we regularly serve, and we never apply the cost of the visit to your order later.
How long does an in-home measure take?
Most measures take 45 to 90 minutes, depending on how many windows and how many decisions you want to make on the day. A single room can take 30 minutes. A whole house with motorization might take a little longer.
Do I have to buy anything?
No. You will get a written quote and you can take as long as you like to decide. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics or "today only" pricing.
Can I measure my windows myself instead?

Do I need to be home for the measure?
Yes, an adult who can make decisions about the windows should be there. Most of the value of the visit is seeing fabrics in your light and talking through what you want each room to do.
Can you measure outside business hours?
We offer evening and Saturday appointments in most areas. Choose a time that suits you when you book, or email hello@atlanticshades.com and we will find one.
Do you measure for commercial and multi-unit projects?
Yes. For commercial, institutional and multi-unit work we schedule a site measure with your project contact. Request a project quote.
What should I do before the measure?
Nothing complicated. Clear access to the windows you want covered and, if you have existing blinds, leave them up so we can see how they mount. Think about which rooms matter most to you and what bothers you about them now.
