Bedford South has grown quickly over the past twenty years into one of the region's most sought-after neighbourhoods. Large modern homes and townhouses climb the hillside above the Basin, many with open-concept main floors, two-storey entries and expansive windows chosen for the view.
These are some of the most window-heavy homes we work in, and they are almost always new enough that the windows themselves are good. The challenge is not drafts; it is light. Morning glare off the water, a low winter sun at eye level, and summer heat building up behind big glass.
What we fit most here: motorized shades on tall and wide windows, grouped by room and set on schedules. Solar shades in 3% openness for living areas facing the Basin. Blackout cellular or roller in bedrooms. For homes under construction, we provide wiring specs so hardwired motors can be planned before drywall.
Frequently asked questions
Should I pre-wire for motorized shades in a new Bedford South home?
If you are building or doing a major renovation, it is worth it for the windows you know you will motorize. Hardwired motors never need charging. We supply wiring specs for your electrician. If walls are already closed, rechargeable motors work very well too.
What openness solar shade suits a Basin view?
Most Bedford South living rooms suit 3% openness in a dark colour, which balances glare control with a clear view of the water. West-facing rooms that take strong afternoon sun may suit 1%.
