Whitney Pier grew up beside the steel plant, home to families who came from across Europe, the Caribbean and the rest of Canada to work there. Its churches, its close-set wood-frame homes and its strong sense of community are part of what makes Sydney, Sydney.
Many Pier homes date from the early twentieth century. They have the windows to show it: frames that have moved over the decades, original sashes in some houses and replacement windows in others, often in the same house. Homes are close together and close to the street.
What we fit most here: top-down bottom-up cellular shades for warmth and street-side privacy, lined Roman shades where homeowners want a traditional look, and blackout for bedrooms. We measure each window three ways, because no two are quite the same in a house this age.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fit blinds in very old window frames?
Yes. We measure each window at several points and build to the tightest dimension so the blind runs straight. Where a frame is badly uneven, an outside mount can hide it and block more drafts.
What gives privacy on a close street without blocking light?
Top-down bottom-up cellular shades. Cover the lower part of the window for privacy and leave the top open for daylight.
